Do you still print things? Admittedly, I’ve slowly transitioned away from using a printer – not because I particularly care about saving trees, it’s just something I’ve found less and less necessary. That being said, there are still times that I come across an article on a website that I’d like to read where a laptop probably isn’t appropriate, if you follow. If you are a regular reader here you are quite aware of how some of the most minor things annoy the hell out of me. Case in point, when I’ve printed off a lengthy article found online, as I prep for some offline reading, why must the URL from my browser be displayed in the footer of every page? Hey, I told you this was minor! Let’s just say this tip is for those of us who want to save ink or toner and leave it at that. The fix is actually quite simple and is possible in both Firefox and IE7.
In Firefox
From the toolbar select File->Page Setup and select the Margins and Header/Footer tab. From the URL drop-down select –blank–.
In Internet Explorer
Click the down arrow icon next to the printer icon on the toolbar and choose Page Setup.
From the Headers and Footers section just remove all the text found in the Footer Form Field, leaving it blank.
