Google Chrome has quickly ascended to the top of the favorite browser list for many savvy users. For me, it’s down to a 50/50 equal split between Chrome and Firefox – there still remains a few features, namely extensions and add-ons, that keep me coming back to Firefox time and time again. However, Chrome has made up ground at a break neck speed and there is no reason to doubt it won’t continue.

While some users wait for the Chrome developers to extend functionality natively, the support of browser extensions now allows 3rd party devs to contribute safely and easily. Chrome users whom have come from other browsers have probably experienced a few feature holes that can be plugged through the use of extensions. One that is surprisingly simple and annoying – the inability to set an image in the browser as the desktop wallpaper – is addressed today. While browsers such as Firefox and Internet Explorer support the idea of right-clicking on an image and setting it as the wallpaper, Chrome does not.

Set image as wallpaper is about as straight-forward as any browser extension I’ve come across. After visiting the Google Chrome Extension website and installing the add-on you will see a new option appear within your right-click context menu – Set image as wallpaper.

At which point you are presented with an overlay that provides a few choices on how to handle your wallpaper selection: Stretch, Tile, Center, Fill, or Fit – all familiar options to would-be desktop customizers. Choose your preferences and your wallpaper will be adjusted accordingly – that is if you are using Chrome within Windows. Currently the extension only supports Windows but I hope that future updates will expand support to Linux or OS X.

A simple problem married with a simple solution!
