Rid the Send Feedback Link in Windows 7 Beta Titlebar

The Windows 7 Beta was released by Microsoft this past weekend and the demand was so overwhelming that Microsoft’s servers buckled. I don’t intend to make Windows 7 a regular focus here just yet, but clearly there is a ton of interest out there by computer enthusiasts. If you’ve ventured into the world of Microsoft’s latest beta you are likely annoyed by something so small and minor – at least in the grand scheme of things. You see, every titlebar in the Windows 7 Beta has a text link to Send Feedback to Microsoft. As visually appealing as Windows 7 is, this link just doesn’t jive. Understandably, Microsoft wants to soliciting consumer feedback – that is the point of a beta after all – but it would be nice if it wasn’t so blatant. As it bothers me so much, I have a registry key that will remove the link.

win7_feedback_link_1

  1. Click Start and in the Start Search box type regedit.exe
  2. Traverse the Registry Editor navigation tree on the left hand side down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
  3. Right-click on the Desktop key and select New->DWORD (32 bit) Value and title it FeedbackToolEnabled. You may leave the value set to 0.
  4. win7_feedback_link_2

  5. Reboot to apply the registry change completely.
  6. win7_feedback_link_3
