I’ve showed you before that holding Shift and right-clicking on your desktop or a folder reveals the Open Command Window Here menu item. But what if you always want that option available? You could glue your shift key down – but that might have other side effects. No, this is actually possible and it involves digging into our friend the Registry.
- Click Start and in the Start Search box type regedit.exe
- Traverse the Registry Editor navigation tree on the left hand side down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\cmd.
- Delete the key titled Extended.
- Navigate the left hand tree again, but this time to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmd.
- Again, Delete the key titled Extended.

The change will take effect immediately, no reboot necessary, no shift necessary.
