iTunes 4.9, podcast to me baby

Apple released the much kablooyed iTunes 4.9 today, featuring such imaginative innovation as native podcast support! Yawn. How about some VBR AAC encoding fellas or gapless playback on the iPods? OGG? I digress …

Some adventurous hackers are reporting proof of the rumoured iTunes Phone, perhaps from Motorola. I don’t get it. Lets face it, the iPod is wildly successful because it does one thing, and one thing well, musak. The market is flooded with portable music players (with larger feature sets)and none of have put a dent in Apple’s marketshare.

Look, I dislike carrying both my cell and iPod around with me but convergence is nothing new here. I am interested in what Apple/Motorola are ultimately bringing to the table.

Give me an iPod with native bluetooth headphone or fancy schmancy 802.11b/g for wireless sync. Thanks!
