Disable Firefox Extension Installation Delay

This shouldn’t surprise you - I’m a huge fan of Firefox. Probably the greatest attraction for most is its extensibility through the aptly named Extensions. These little snippets of addon code provide the Firefox browser additional functionality, letting you personalize and customize your browsing experience. If you are like me and enjoy trying out a lot of different extensions then you’ve likely come across the extension installation screen that has a countdown timer of 3 seconds before you may click Install.

That’s a huge time sink don’t you think? Imagine if you could recoup all those wasted seconds and apply them to an admirable goal? Admittedly, it isn’t a huge deal and believe it or not, there is a valid reason for the Install button to initially be greyed out. Still, you may be interested in knowing how to eliminate the delay.

  1. In a new Firefox window/tab, type about:config in the address bar.
  2. From the Filter box, type security.dialog_enable_delay
  3. Double click on the result and change the value from 2000 to 0.

The next time you install a Firefox Extension Add-on you will notice the delay is gone.
