Get Your Tesla Coil in Time for Your July 4th Weenie Roast

Maker Faire 2008 is in the books, having been held this past weekend at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. Maker Faire, for those that don’t know, is a two-day, family-friendly event that celebrates the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset. It’s for creative, resourceful people of all ages and backgrounds who like to tinker and love to make things. One such DIY project that left onlookers wowing involved the use of the ever-cool Tesla coil.

In typical geek fashion, it wasn’t just an awesome display of visual energy. No, this set up of tesla coils served a higher purpose – cooking hotdogs. Not just one, but a full chain of hotdogs, wired in series.

The jury is still out on whether the hotdogs are edible – and not because of the involvement of tesla coils. Who needs microwaves?
