As we head into the home stretch of the summer vacation season, everyone is anxious to offload all those fantastic photos from their digital camera. Thankfully, Windows Vista automatically recognizes when a digital camera and offers to kindly dump the pictures in your profile’s Pictures folder. Those of you that have used this process are quite aware of the result; the photos are organized by date and are sequentially numbered from 001.JPG to 999.JPG.
I am still rather traditional and desire descriptive file names of my pictures, rather than rely on something like tagging. If you are a dying breed of users like myself, here is a simple Vista tip to help rename all those files without resorting to additional software. Start by renaming the first file in a folder, either by hitting F2 or Right-Click->Rename. With the desired file name created, rather than hitting enter to confirm hit the tab key and Vista will rename the file and jump to the rename process with the next file in the folder. This works great for me and my old fashioned reliance on the file system. Also, this works will all types of files too.
