Duplicating a tab with a keyboard shortcut in Chrome/Firefox

If you enjoy the discovery of a new keyboard shortcut as much as me and Firefox or Chrome is your browser of choice, I’m here to share a quick tip with you.

Tabbed browsing has transformed the way users consume their web browsing; it effectively feeds our desire to multi-task as well as flare up our generations ADD. Every power user knows that CTRL+T launches a new tab within the browser window. But what if you wish to duplicate the existing tabbed window website in the newly created tab? That can be accomplished by:

  • CTRL+L to highlight the current web address
  • CTRL+C to copy the address
  • CTRL+T to create a new tab
  • CTRL+V to paste the address into the now focused address bar
  • ENTER to load the site

Simple right? I just – it’s a bit cumbersome. However I’ve recently discovered an alternative method that drastictly reduces the number of steps involved.

  • ALT+D to put the focus to the address bar
  • ALT+ENTER to load the address in a new tab

Even simpler right? A niche tip for you power surfers!
