With Google+, the Google bar will display notifications of activity of your friends or acquaintances or really anyone you’ve added into your Circle. At a quick glance, while you are inside Gmail or searching the web with Google, you can view and respond to notifications or messages and then return to the Gmail or Google search. On one hand this really feeds the typical web users’ ADHD but in the grand scheme of things, the idea is to increase interactivity and efficiency to a process you are likely already involved in – keeping up to date with your friends activities and well beings on a social network.
However, the Google bar is only displayed prominently on the various Google services sites. Browsing away from Google, the bar disappears – which makes sense as it’s actually a component of the website and not your browser.
GTools+ is a Chrome extension that will allow the Google unified bar to travel with you, from site to site. GTools+ also introduces new functionality such as Gmail or Google Reader notifications that isn’t present in Google’s native implementation. For many, this is a handy consolidation of a few extensions you may already be using for other Google services within Chrome.
Further customization is possible include adding or removing of the main menu or secondary links. GTools+ can even allow the Google bar to move with the scroll of a web page so it’s contents are always on display within the browser. With GTools+ you will never be out of the loop of all things Google – which is hopefully a good thing!
