Create Temporary Bookmarks in Firefox

I’m free to admit that the act of bookmarking websites in my browser in order to save them for future visits has died off significantly over the last few years. Most sites that I routinely visit offer a subscription service over RSS where new articles are pulled down automatically every few minutes to my RSS client – Google Reader in my case. I never miss an article I may enjoy; I never waste time visiting a webpage a couple times a day when it has nothing new to offer me. RSS has changed the way I get my content and I know I’m not alone.

Ironically, with all that being said, there are situations where falling back to the traditional bookmarking system makes sense. In my profession I’m moving from project to project every couple of weeks. Each project generally collects a number of relevant URLs that are referenced throughout the milestones. At closure I’m often left with bookmarks that have no place for me moving forward. As a result, they get deleted. But, why can’t bookmarks have an expiration date?

Tark or Temporary Bookmarks is a Firefox add-on that addresses this problem. Bookmarks can be tagged with an expiration date from 1 to 4 weeks. Once the bookmarks has crossed the threshold Tark will move the bookmark to a folder of your choosing where you can then periodically clean out further. I find this method a bit easier to work with than creating separate bookmark folders for a project and then ensure all websites are filed accordingly.

Can your work-flow benefit from temporary bookmarks? Tark may be worth a look!
