Keeping your Windows PC lean, mean, and clean is a fundamental problem when it comes to every day computing. Like getting an oil change on your car, it’s good to not allow cruft to collect and build on your PC. Windisk is an advanced system cleaner that removes most of the grunt work typically associated with other cleaning products – and it does it all automatically in the background. Windisk will clean all temporary files, recently viewed files, browser cache data, and invalid registry entries. After launching Windisk you will automatically be placed within its Control Panel interface. Executing the actual cleansing process can be accomplished through the Clean drop-down where you’ll see a few of the various cleaning processes available. If you are running Windisk without admin rights the only option that will succeed are Clean This User or Shutdown Windows and Clean. With the scan initiated the progress is displayed in the bottom status bar of Windisk. Unfortunately there is no progress bar to give the user an indication of just how far along in the process it is, but it will display the various directories or steps as they happen. Once the cleaning process is completed you can view the results log from the Logs panel – as you’d imagine! You will notice any informational type messages as well as any errors Windisk encountered during the process. Here you can see the scan was unable to fully clean my profile as a few files were in use or otherwise open by another application. Underneath the Options menu Windisk can be configured further. While the software will scan and clean the typical Windows temp folders you can also add custom folders paths with which you want the software to clean log files from. If for some reason you do not wish Windisk to clean the Recycle Bin or a particular browser’s cache, you can enable or disable various options here as well. Most importantly, Windisk can clean your profile automatically upon log off if the setting is enabled first under the Advanced tab. Windisk is compatible with all versions of Windows, including both 32 and 64 bit releases. While there exists a corporate or enterprise version of the software, the home version is free for use after a painless registration/activation process.
