Automatically rotate desktop wallpapers in Windows 7

Desktop wallpapers are one of the easiest and most visually satisfying ways to customize your computer experience. High quality wallpapers are a huge deal – there are dozens of dozens of sites dedicated to providing just that. While it took Microsoft several iterations of Windows, they’ve finally brought about some a nice enhancement to wallpapers in Windows 7 – the ability to rotate through a set automatically.

Here’s how you enable the rotation feature, as it’s not on by default and it’s rather buried in the Control Panel area.

  1. Right-click on an open area of your Desktop and choose Personalize.
  2. Click on Desktop Background on the resulting window, it’s near the bottom center.
  3. Browse to the folder location which contains any and all your wallpapers. Proceed to check-off all wallpapers you wish to use in your series in the main section of the window.
  4. Finally, set your Picture position as desired, I typically use Fill. Then adjust how often you wish the wallpaper to change by selecting the duration in the drop-down.

That’s basically the gist of it – not difficult at all but a bit hidden away in my opinion.
