Windows Explorer doesn’t afford much customizations by default, especially in the visual department. If you are looking to add a little more pizzaz to your setup you might be interested in Windows 7 Folder Background Changer. The free portable software utility affords you the ability to change the folder background in Explorer from the boring white default with black text to something a little more personal. The usage of the application is quite simple – browse to the folder you wish to customize and click Change Background Image to path to the desired wallpaper. Of note, the software requires execution with Admin rights – it will not prompt you for automatic elevation like many applications. The change is applied immediately. Depending on the coloring of chosen background wallpaper you may find the text too difficult to read. In situations such as that, Folder Background Changer can also change the font color or just add a drop shadow to the text for a little more pop to its readability. Despite the name suggesting otherwise, Windows 7 Folder Background Changer isn’t exclusive to Windows 7 – it also works on Vista installs, both 32 and 64 bit versions.
