Upon first launch you must choose the appropriate language – it defaults to German. Drag’n'Crypt, while light on features, has a Settings panel that warrants a quick inspection. In addition to starting the program minimized or integrating it within the Explorer context menu, some of the more interesting features are the secure erase of the source file after encryption and the auto decrypt/encrypt of your favorites – a list of files or folders that can be encrypted or decrypted en mass from the System Tray. For example, you could have all your Documents or project file paths added to the favorites and process the contents at the beginning or end of the day.
Files outside of the defined favorites location can still be encrypted/decrypted by the drag and drop method onto the desktop icon – hence the name of the application of course. Dropping a file on the application will display the Encrypt dialog where you can then supply the desired password, complete with a quality of strength meter, and the option to disable the secure erase setting on a case by case basis.
If the file association has been registered, the resulting .dcu file can be launched with a double-click, otherwise decryption will first have to be done with the drag and drop again.
Drag’n'Crypt is compatible with all releases of Windows, including Windows 7 64-bit.
