Financial Times reports that Apple is in negotiations for an unlimited music bundle that would open up the entire iTunes music catalog on newly purchased iPod and iPhone devices. The "all you can eat" isn’t actually subscription based, but rather a premium attached to the sale of each device - atleast that is the angle Apple is pushing for. Unique to many, but not entirely brand new - Nokia has a similar deal from December 2007 and launching later this year.
The monthly subscription model hasn’t exactly caught on, but that just as well could be because of the iPod + iTunes market dominance. Apple is currently hoping for a $20 surcharge on each new music device, while Nokia’s deal is closer to the $80 mark. I’d expect Jobs and Co. to settle around $50 - a price point that would interest someone like myself. It’s obviously premature to wonder how any such deal would affect existing owners of iPod. Given history, we are all likely looking at new purchases to get in on this deal.
