If you are an active user of Windows 7 Media Center to consume your media content this next configuration option may be of interest. As you know, the skip button will progress through your video in 29 second chunks. If you’ve overshot your destination while skipping commercials, the replay button will rewind by 7 seconds, which generally puts you in the proper place. Generally these defaults are suitable for most users but if you are interested in a bit more adjustment of the intervals it’s very possible by digging into the Registry.

Dive into the Windows Registry from the Start search menu with regedit.

Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_ USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Settings\VideoSettings

Once you are in the VideoSettings key locate the value SkipAheadInterval in the right-hand panel.

Double-click the entry to edit its DWORD value and change the decimal value as appropriate – the measurement is in milliseconds. To set the skip interval to 60 seconds use a value of 60000.

With the Skip interval now adjusted you can turn your attention to the Replay interval; simply replay the instructions above but instead locate the value InstantReplayInterval and set it as desired, again in milliseconds with a decimal base.

With the two registry values adjusted, the simplest way to ensure they are applied fully is to reboot Windows. Alternatively, restarting Media Center should also apply the change correctly.
