Adjust the Amount of Results in Firefox 3′s New Location Bar

One of Firefox 3′s new features is found in the address bar. The address bar auto-completes URLs and page titles all while prioritizing the list by frequency and date of visits. Some have found this feature so awesome that it’s been unofficially dubbed the “AwesomeBar.” It’s effectively doing a keyword search on your browsing history (and bookmarks or tags) – it even works with multiple keywords – and displays the results as you type in a neatly formatted two-line display drop-down.

As is often the case, anytime something changes it takes awhile for everyone to adapt. If you are the impatient type, or just don’t like the functionality, as with most things in Firefox, the whole experience is customizable.

  1. In a new Firefox window/tab, type about:config in the address bar.
  2. From the Filter box, type browser.urlbar.maxRichResults
  3. Double click on the result and change the value from 12 to whatever number you’d like. If you use -1 it will disable the entry completely.
  4. Restart Firefox to apply your changes.
